Within Religion

Looking further into other aspects of traditions of culture there is also particular views of religion and there is believed to be a group who consider them selves to be the Church of Body Modification which is recognised by the government as a religion. Although it is said not to have a God, instead it teaches people that they can create a world of their own choosing. The ritual is about having self-esteem and spiritual growth, it encourages teens to pierce themselves as a way of showing self expression. Although this brings up issues of the dangers of infections and self harming it also shows us how subcultures are considered a valuable concept in body modification. This links back to group communication and how belonging to a specific subculture is important to people in today’s society. People are willing to modify parts of their body to show the novelty and significance of their individuality within these groups which relates back to the tribal traditions.
